Copyright Conundrum

Dear Debbie,

I get into trouble on step 2 of the June issue Cheat Sheet: Copyright Ready. When I try to make the Circle C by holding down the Alt key and typing 0169, nothing happens on my screen! I have successfully made the brush with my name, etc., but cannot get the Circle C! Is there something wrong with me?

Sincerely,
Copyright Challenged in New Rochelle, NY

Dear Challenged,

I'm glad the other parts of the Cheat Sheet worked for you. And don't worry, it's not your fault. Here's  the silly solution: On my PC, I can only get the symbol to appear when I type 0169 on the numeric keypad. If you have a keyboard with a numeric keypad, make sure Number Lock is on and try holding Alt while typing 0169 on that.

If that doesn't work and you have Microsoft Word, there's another option. Open a new document, then type Ctrl + Alt + C to make a copyright symbol. Highlight it, copy it, then paste it into Photoshop. It's a workaround, but it will solve your problem.

Why not try the simple way and just
insert the symbol? Its part of the
symbols that includes things like:
hearts, squares, circles, etc.

Thats what I use. Plus its a lot easier
than trying to remember what series of
keystrokes to always use.

I'm doing this directly in Photoshop by
the way.

I've been doing ALT+0169 for so long it's second nature by now. You can get a lot of neat characters that way, incuding the null character (which is different from a space, and confuses the he11 out of the Unix people wnen they see what looks like a space in a file or directory name).

If push comes to shove, another way to access the mighty © for Windows users is to simply use Character Map (look under "Programs > Accessories > System Tools" in the Start menu). From there you can copy the character into Clipboard and paist it where ever you need it.

Do it the easy way...

Select "MAPTECH" as your font and type lower case "g". In Maptech, that gives you the copyright symbol and then you can switch back to whatever font you prefer for the name. I do this right in PS with the text tool.

In the copyright cheat sheet I am having trouble with the part of clicking where the image is to be placed. I click and it doesn't stay there. After I click and move the mouse, my copyright follows wherever I move the mouse.

Hi
I feel like I am losing my mind. A couple of months ago, I had created a document that had maptech fonts in it. Now, when I went back to make changes, the font is "missing"... and it is not among my font options. I have auto-updates for my Adobe programs... do you have any idea what could of happened... I really need these fonts.
Thanks
