Disorderly Conduct

Contact Dear Debbie,

I'm scanning slides. Can you please explain why, when I view them in the Adobe Bridge, they do not stay in the order that I scanned them? Likewise, when I go to make contact sheets, it does the same thing. I want the contact sheets to match up with the slide pages without having to rearrange the slides. Can you help?

Signed,
Out of Order

Dear Out of Order,

I'm glad you wrote with an easy-to-fix problem because it's the day before Thanksgiving (which is, incidentally, my birthday this year), and there's lots of non-Photoshop work to be done.

Here's the deal: Bridge automatically sorts your pictures in ascending order by filename. So, if you want them to be in the right order automatically, name them in the order you want them to appear (0001.tif, 0002.tif, etc.). On the other hand, if you'd prefer to give them non-numeric or non-alphabetical filenames, just change the way Bridge sorts them. Simply scan them in the proper order (you can name them anything you want). Then go to View > Sort > By Date Created. Bridge will then order them according to when they were made. In either case, Contact Sheet II will match the order you see in Bridge.

Hope that helps.

Good luck, and Happy Thanksgiving,

Debbie
