RAW Deal?
I recently bought a Canon EOS 5D, and I'm thrilled with my new camera! But whenever I download the pictures taken in RAW, I can't open them in Photoshop CS. I've been searching the Adobe's website for the plug-in needed to see the RAW files, but with no success! Can you point me in the right direction?
Sincerely,
A RAW problem

Dear RAW,
Unfortunately, the bad news is that Adobe Photoshop CS's Camera RAW software doesn't support the Canon EOS 5D. The camera came out after CS2 had been released, so Adobe didn't update CS's Camera RAW to work with it.
If you still want to use Adobe's RAW software to convert, there is something that you can do. Download Adobe's DNG converter and convert your .CR2 files to Adobe's digital negative format. You'll be able to adjust the DNG files in CS's Camera RAW.
Otherwise, you have two choices: Use the software that came with your camera to convert to TIFF, and then go to Photoshop, or wait until CS3 comes out, and upgrade.
Good luck, and I hope that helps,
Debbie

Debbie, I just looked up CS 2 on the Adobe site, and they claim to support the EOS 5D, as one of the Canon digital models compatible with CS2. From what you had said, I thought the opposite was the case. As I just got a 5 D two weeks ago, I am interested in acquiring a full-featured image editor for this camera. Any insight you can offer would be great! Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Just to clarify, CS2 does indeed support the 5D. But since CS3 is right around the bend, it doesn't really make sense to shell out for CS2 now if you can hold out for a little while.
All the best,
Debbie

Use Capture One, you will have better results anyway

I have a Canon Rebel Digital Rebel XT. The camera RAW files are also in CR2 format. When I tried to open them in Photoshop CS2, I too would get the error that the file type was inappropriate. However, I was able to download a plugin from Adobe that fixed the problem. Is there any difference between the CR2 for the Rebel XT and the 5D?

Debbie,
In your self-description at the top of the page, you should also have added, cute!
I have an EOS20D, and PSE5. When I "Get Photos" in PSE5, I can only see the jpeg files in the camera, and not the .cr2 files. I use the Canon software to download the .cr2 files to a folder on my pc, and then I can "Get Photos" with no problem. Should I be able to get those little raw buggers in PSE? I hope this is not the same question that you answered from Raw in Madrid.
I gone 'round the Mulberry Bush with Adobe tech support, and, all they keep telling me is that my camera is supported. However, at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=330350, .cr2 files are not listed.
Thanks,
Jerry

I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 nearly everyday to open, and edit Canon .CR2 photos. I had to get a plugin from Adobe in order to make it work initially. The plugin is Camera Raw 3.5, Version 3.5.0.134
